The Hansel and Mildred McGee Foundation has been named for a retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, Hansel L. McGee, and a retired educator, Mildred E. McGee.
Justice Hansel L. McGee was known for his unparallelled service to his community. He served as chairman and/or president of the Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers, Morrisania Revitalization Corporation and the African American Legal Defense and Education Fund. He also served on the boards of the New York Metropolitan Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolence and the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation. He became known for his tireless effort and commitment to community empowerment, educational enrichment, affordable housing, business development and social justice.
Mildred E. McGee has spent a lifetime devoted to education. Having gone to Seminary School, she has been active in the Presbytery of the City of New York where she has held many notable positions, including Moderator. In additon to teaching Sunday school classes, she has taught third and fouth grade as well as gifted and talented children. She has served on many boards of organizations which have provided assistance to those in need.
